The Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory

Reading

Hebrews 2:1-5

1 Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.
2 For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution,
3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard,
4 while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
5 For it was not to angels that God subjected the world to come, of which we are speaking. (ESV)

Meditation

Having heard the declaration of Christ's glory, we are admonished to give more earnest heed to the great salvation He delivered. This salvation, confirmed by God through signs and wonders, is delivered through His Word and Sacraments. Advent calls us to vigilantly prepare for the coming Judge, emphasizing that the remaining time is short.

Prayer of the Day

O Lord, mercifully hear our prayer and stretch forth Thy right hand to defend us from falling away from the great salvation delivered by Thy Son. Amen.

O almighty and most merciful God, of Your bountiful goodness keep us, we implore You, from all things that may hurt us, that we, being ready, both in body and soul, may cheerfully accomplish those things that You would have done; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
