When God brought Israel out of Egypt, He commanded Moses: “Let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst” (Exodus 25:8). Every board, basin, and curtain was built “after the pattern” shown on the mountain (Exodus 25:40), and the letter to the Hebrews calls it all “a copy and shadow of the heavenly things” (Hebrews 8:5) — every part preaching Christ. From the Camp to the Mercy Seat

The order below follows the worshiper’s path: out of the camp, in through the one gate, to the altar of sacrifice, to the basin, and then — where only the priests could go — into the Holy Place and at last, once a year, behind the veil; it ends beneath the cloud of the LORD’s own presence. It is the same path the Epistle to the Hebrews walks (Hebrews 9:1–12) to show that “Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf” (Hebrews 9:24).
